My Thoughts

Where do you even start with a watch like this… You might not have seen this reference before, and I wouldnt blame you.

They just don’t come up. And when they do, they tend to disappear and stay hidden away there for years - because this isn’t one you can simply decide to buy again next month.

This is real Rolex scarcity. Long before waiting lists, allocations and all the manufactured scarcity that surrounds the brand today.

Compared with a modern Sub they’re worlds apart, but look down and it’s still obvious the same watch. These early references laid the groundwork for everything that followed.

But that dial… that is the magic. Nearly 70 years of life, protected from the world by a thin piece of acrylic. Most of the radium plots have deteriorated, one is somehow still hanging on, the gilt has aged and the whole thing has developed a look that, ironically, only time can give you.

It isn’t perfect.

Thank God for that.
